  • Volunteers are a vital part of the day to day operations at House of Hope. By supporting our staff, volunteers help us provide higher quality services to the survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence that we serve.
  • Volunteer opportunities are available in many areas and skill levels. Some need little or no experience, while others require a training program provided free of charge. If you would like to find out more about how you can help make change happen, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 417-777-3229.

  • VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
    • THRIFT STORE - Help at Hope's Closet by picking up, accepting, sorting, acknowledging, and stocking incoming donations Donations may include personal care items, paper products, toys, food, furniture, etc.  
    • CLEANING - Help make our environment as welcoming as possible by performing general cleaning duties at our offices, Thrift Store or shelter.
    • CHILD CARE PROVIDER - Provides childcare for women during support groups, educational groups, court, and Dr. appointments, etc. 
    • LIFE SKILLS CLASS FACILITATOR - Facilitates training residents in life skills such as balancing checkbooks, finances, basic health care and dietary needs for selves and children, parenting, and self-improvement 
    • BUILDING MAINTENANCE/LANDSCAPING - Assist in general maintenance, such as painting, carpentry, electrical, repair, trimming trees, mowing, raking yard, etc. 
    • SUPPORT GROUP - Assist with meal set up and take down. Assist with child care and activities for children including but not limited to story time, games, arts, and crafts. 
    • INTERNSHIP AND PRACTICUM PROGRAM -  Please see the Volunteer Coordinator for more information on becoming an Intern

How to Volunteer

In order to start volunteering at Polk County House of Hope, you will have to fill out some paperwork. This helps us to get to know you as an individual and know who will be working closely to our clients. The paperwork consist of: 
  • Name, email, and phone number
  • Education level 
  • Volunteer availability 
  • Short questionnaire
  • Personal references 
  • Confidentiality agreement
  • Waiver and release of liability 
  • Background check
